About Me

Boston based drummer and composer Patrick Simard started playing drums at 10 years old, after years of beating on pots and pans in his hometown near Ottawa, Canada.

His musical education growing up, with the help of his first musical mentor Chuck Burrows, consisted of incessantly listening to the funk sounds of Tower of Power, soul sounds of Marvin Gaye, James Brown, eventually the fusion of Weather Report, leading to the jazz roots of Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and blues with Muddy Waters and Ray Charles.

Pat is now a graduate from Berklee College of Music, where he Jazz Composition and Drumset Performance on a full scholarship. Since moving to Boston at age 17, he quickly became a first-call drummer for projects of all styles, from funk, to folk, to world music, to jazz. Pat received the Armand Zildjian Award, has been part of the college’s top ensembles, studying with Hal Crook, Phil Wilson, Joe Lovano, John Patitucci, Terri-Lyne Carrington, Mark Walker, and Bertram Lehmann, studying as well as being part of the Berklee Global Jazz Institute under the artistic direction of Danilo Perez. He has performed locally and internationally with some of his musical idols such as John Patitucci, Danilo Perez, Ben Street, Anat Cohen, Julian Lage, Phil Wilson, and many more. In addition to his work as a sideman, performing and recording in the Boston/New York area, Pat is the drummer for Senegalese sabar master, Lamine Touré in Boston.
