Ryan was born September 9th 1990 and grew up in the Boston suburb of Natick, Massachusetts. At an early age he was full of energy and always enjoyed music. He started playing the trumpet through his elementary school band program when he entered the 4th grade. During his primary education Ryan joined every band available to him and participated in events such as concerts, recitals, auditions, talent shows, and recording sessions. During these years Ryan also learned how to play the piano and flugelhorn.
Jazz was a part of Ryan’s life ever since his early childhood because of his grandfather: a jazz drummer. Ryan found that he had a knack for improvising when he joined his middle school jazz band.
This passion for jazz continued into high school where he learned to blow over more intricate chord progressions. He has participated in summer programs at places such as Marshfield High School the South Shore Conservatory, and Berklee College of Music at its Five Week Program.
He now is a student at Berklee continuing his studies in jazz performance and composition. While undertaking a double major in Jazz Composition and Electronic Production and Design he is in bands such as his self-led jazz sextet Deceptive Revolution, Porctopus, and Nigel Newton and the Premarital Sextet. In the past he has played in Hershey Park’s Chocolate Covered Band and various parade bands. He is also working with software programs such as Reason, Digital Performer, Logic, Protools, and Ableton Live to produce electronic music. He has studied trumpet under individuals such as Bobby Gallegos, Charlie Lewis, Lin Biviano, and Darren Barrett.
