Los Angeles native David Gualano has toured several continents playing his saxophone in show bands with the Royal Caribbean, Carnival and Norwegian Cruise Lines.
“Performing on cruise ships has been a highlight of my musical career,” he says. “I have been fortunate to make a living doing what I love and to see different parts of the world”.Gualano grew up on Catalina Island in California. By age 14, he was performing with local jazz musicians at hotels and restaurants. “I was too young to know at the time, but I was lucky to have the guidance and encouragement of quality musicians growing up like. It was a great learning experience”. Some of his other musical influences are John Coltrane, Dexter Gordon and Antonio Carlos Jobim. Over the years, David has developed his own distinct, soulful sound on the tenor saxophone. He also plays alto sax, clarinet, and flute. After winning the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award at Santa Susana Performing Arts Magnet School, he graduated with honors. He was awarded The Berklee Entering Student Talent Scholarship by Berklee College of Music in Boston and graduated with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Saxophone Performance 2009. He recently returned from Berklee in Valencia Spain, where he earned a master’s degree in Contemporary Performance with a production concentration. David is a composer and is currently recording the songs for his debut EP, A Taste of Brazil.
