About Me

I was born in Costa Rica, Central America. I learned to play the piano as a child. As a teenager I went gigging with a traditional band throughout different places in my country. Later on went to Ecuador and Guatemala with another traditional music band, playing the accordion. I took my high school on a public arts school where I continued my musical studies. Then I decided to take Music Education at the university. I completed my bachelor of Music Ed. at Universidad de Costa Rica. Then I came to Canada and completed my Master in Piano Performance at Brandon University, a renowned music School in Canada. I started a large project in 2008 of getting music students and Latin-American immigrant industrial workers to play together. It is a project that involves my education knowledge and performance skills as I play with them in a band called Son Latino Band. It was thought as a community project where immigrants and students could do real popular music, meaningful for both sides. The project has been so successful that during this summer the band has been booked 12 times. This project gave me the experience of arranging, directing, sonwriting and exploring styles in a cross cultural music environment.
The band has played a central role icultural integration in our city.
Since 1999 I have been a piano and music teacher in different music institutions and also I have had several other jobs (got to pay the bills….)
