About Me

YoungJi Seo, born in Bundang, South Korea, started playing classical piano at the age of 6 and have been playing for church since she was 10. She began her college education at a theological seminary to become a music minister, however, decided to focus on music itself. After graduating from Seoul Jazz Academy, one of the best contemporary music institutes in Korea, for Jazz Piano program, she played piano for the U.S ARMY Air base of Korea for 2 years. Also as the main concert pianist, she performed at the Church of Seoul National University, United Presbyterian Church of Seoul, and appeared with many different gospel music groups. Moreover, she performed with a musical team at KBS, the biggest national television station in South Korea. Despite her busy schedule performing, she moved to Boston, MA leaving everything behind to extend her musical training at the prestigious musics school, Berklee College of Music. Even though piano was her first instrument, she discovered her talent and passion for percussion. Then she jumped into the whole new world by switching her principal instrument at Berklee to percussion. Due to her immense improvement on percussion, also as the only Korean female hand percussionist at Berklee, she has been in demands for many concerts and recitals in the East Coast area. She performed at the Singer’s Night at Berklee Performance Center, toured with different groups of musicians to Chicago, DC, NYC etc. Having Korean traditional drumming background from high school, She has been collaborating Korean traditional drums with Latin, Jazz, Gospel, and World Music as new territory for a new genre.
