Thank you for entering my music profile.
I am Derrick Tate, 25 year old musician and educator from Chicago, Illinois.
My days as a musician started at the age of 10 on the clarinet. Throughout grade school I strived to challenge myself, enhance my playing ability, and study music in my own free time outside of school. By doing so, I have received Outstanding Soloist Awards throughout middle school, and have been a recipient of the John Phillip Sousa Band Award at age 14.
In high school, I picked up the saxophone to study the art of jazz, where I discovered my true passion for jazz and my calling for music education. I studied the music of jazz, studied the mechanics of other instruments, and became involved with community services that provided music to the city and suburbs of Chicago. Having played around the community, I was also given the opportunity to perform in Europe in 2008 and 2009 in England, Austria, and Germany.
As a graduate of Berklee College of Music with a degree in Music Education, my philosophy is that I want our next generations to come to make music and its fundamentals a tool and/or direct representation of their everyday purpose. Whether it is a joyful talent or an aspect of life that can be committed to, it is my belief that music will always represent something unique in the lives of others. Through education and exposure, the arts will stay relevant and retain its purpose for a lifetime to come. Prospective students will want to know and see for themselves what music will mean to them in their lives. I am merely the one that will give them the map that will lead them to that discovery.
For my experiences and skills, please refer to my Resume in the site. Enjoy your day, and give Music your very own Purpose!
