About Me

Takafumi Suenaga was born in Sendai, Japan in 1987 and began playing piano at the age of 4 according to my parents. Even though his both parents are not professional musician, his mother can play the guiter, violin and flute and father can play the alto sax. Both parents also loved listening to the music of any genre.
He spent his childhood a lot of time with listening to many kinds of music from Classical Music and Film Music to Jazz Music and Pop Music.

When he was 5 years old, his mother suggested him to play the Piano and Trumpet and he started to take a weekly lesson in local area. After he entered his Junior High School, he also started to play keyboards with band. The band gave him an opportunity to play Fusion music by famous composers such as Pat Metheny, Weather Report and many others. In his High School, he also started to play Jazz.

Since when he was a child, he had great interest in playing fusion and jazz music. His first great influence was Pat Metheny, a guitarist and composer for his group as you know. Since he listened to his music when he was child, it has become his favorite of all time. By the time he is in the second grade in his Junior High School, he already had his own band to play Pat Metherny’s music and other fusion music. And he also started to compose his original song at the same time.

After he graduated his High School, he entered Tohoku University in Japan to study physics and mathematics. At the same time, he started to play music as professional musician. He played music with many great musicians such Nao Takeuchi(Tenor Sax), Yoshio Suzuki(Bass) and many others. And he also took Piano lesson from famous musician such as Makoto Ozone, Kei Akagi, Manabu Oishi and many others. These experiences influenced him to live as a professional musician. Since he was a child, he also have great interest of physics and mathematics. After he graduated and got degree of physics, he came to the U.S. and he entered Berklee College of Music in Boston.
