I was born in Fairbanks, Alaska on February 5th 1992 on a chilly (-29 F) winter’s day. My mom and dad took me to my new home on Wolverine Lane, an octagon that our family had built. My extended family all lived together in different homes on an 80 acre piece of land that my grandparents had homesteaded in their twenties. When I was one year old my dad passed away and I was left with my mother and brother. His wish for me was to have my life filled with music so when I turned four my mom had me start the cello, studying the Suzuki method. My memories from childhood are filled with adventure: frolicking in the woods, harvesting veggies and berries from my grandmother’s farm, climbing trees, tending to my animals and of course playing my cello. Throughout my grade school and high school years I homeschooled off and on which gave me more freedom to explore music, nature and animals. I auditioned for Idyllwild Arts Academy and attended Sophomore year of high school there. At Idyllwild I met my teacher John Walz, a student of the legendary Pierre Fournier and the principle cellist of the Los Angeles Opera. From him I learned amazing cello concertos that inspired me and gave new meaning to my music. Something was missing though- I felt a passion for music but knew it was time to find what really made my passion burn. I started rebelling against the strict classical world and began writing my own songs for cello and voice and playing with bands around Fairbanks. My last high school years were a musical struggle for me because I felt shunned by the classical world and had no support for my rising interest in alternative music. During one summer I met cellist David Chew and was invited to attend his cello Festival, RICE in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. In Brazil I met Eugene Friensen my current teacher at Berklee. All of a sudden my world was starting to turn around and I had hope that I would be able to continue music in the way that made my belly burn with passion. In fall 2010 I attended Berklee and am currently studying with teachers Eugene Friesen and Rob Thomas, being inspired everyday, riding the wonderful wave of Berklee!
