Hello, my name is SooYeon Shin and I was born in Seoul, South Korea. I am currently dual majoring in Film Scoring and Business/Management at Berklee College of Music. I entered the United States in the Fall of 2009. Music has been with me for a long time, ever since I was a child. I started playing piano at the young age of 5 years old. Ever since I was a child and teenager, music was what I wanted to do. My parents insisted that I studied but I wanted to play piano instead. I began piano by learning jazz piano and some of my influences were Keith Jarrett, Brad Mehldau, and Bill Evans. Their amazing solos and creative chord voicings captivated me. In South Korea, I learned under a jazz pianist, Junho Yang, for 5 years and I can say that this teacher made me the person I am. His teachings made me fall in love with music and the sounds of piano. During my stay at Berklee College of Music, I have written many scores for scenes in films as well as understanding the business aspect of music. I find that the experiences at Berklee will help me further my life after college.
