A student and player of the drums since the age of ten. A constant seeker of new heights and musical possibilities.

Experience & Education

Current

  • Drums, Vibes for Doh-Rall Music Collective
October 2008 to Present (over 10 years)

Doh-Rall is a trio consisting of myself, Chris Doyle (keys, piano), and Sam Barry (bass). We formed with the intention of being able to not only function and perform as a piano trio, but to collaborate and incorporate many different instruments as well. We are always shaping and expanding our sound.

  • Drums for Tczeebo
September 2005 to Present (over 13 years)

My best buddies from way back still kicking it and playing the music of yesterday and tomorrow at the same time. Chris Doyle - Fender Rhodes, Piano; Aaron Rourk - Tenor, Alto Sax, Clarinet, Flute, Pocket Trumpet.

Past

  • Drums for Steven Chelliah's FuzAsian Fieri
    August 2010 to December 2010 (4 months)

Steven Chelliah, a recent Berklee-grad from Malaysia constructed an original system of sonic organization, taking traditional Indian ragas and scales and applying them to modern day jazz-fusion. This project culminated with a feature concert at the BPC for the official academic release of his theory

  • Assistant Teacher for MDI High School Jazz Combo
    January 2010 to June 2010 (5 months)

Last Winter/Spring, I assisted one of the combos at the local high school in Bar Harbor, Maine. I am basically there as a second resource to the teacher, Ned Ferm, and serve as a second opinion and also can work directly with the drummer of the group, something that Ned's not quite as familiar with

  • Drum Instructor for the people
    June 2009 to September 2009 (3 months)

Last summer I taught private drum lessons back in my hometown. I found this both challenging and rewarding as I was learning a bunch just by verbalizing techniques and being in a position to convey musical ideas that I've never thought of in terms of words before.

  • Drums for Michaela Kaser and the Naughty Drop
    September 2008 to May 2009 (8 months)

My friend Michaela's pop/r&b group that I played drums in for a little under a year. We played a few gigs around Boston and Cambridge. I'm not in the group anymore, but she's still performing.

  • Drums, Vocals, and sometimes Guitar for Romulus Rex
February 2005 to August 2008 (over 3 years)

My band from High School that recorded two full-length albums and toured around New England. We're still great friends and still play shows occasionally, but usually under different names.

  • Drums for Death to the Pixies
    October 2007 to March 2008 (5 months)

My first year at Berklee I was asked to join a tribute band to the great Boston-based Pixies. We learned a large amount of the repertoire and did a pretty good job of sounding like them as well.

  • Drums for Nerve Endings
March 2004 to October 2007 (over 3 years)

I played drums in the punk rock band The Nerve Endings for almost 4 years, pretty much my entire time in high school. It was good experience playing loud fast music that I don't really get a whole lot of chance to play anymore.

  • Drums for EL5
November 2005 to August 2007 (about a year and a half)

Jazz quintet from High School with my friends Aaron Rourk (ts), Chris Doyle (p), Fox Schwach (b), and Sean Murphy (tp), later replaced by Welly Bacon (g). We played at two of the State Jazz Festivals and received 2nd place in the combo division both years.

  • Drums for Mervyn Johnson Quartet
    June 2006 to September 2006 (3 months)

This is one of my earlier experiences playing live jazz. In addition to a weekly restaurant gig, we opened for Kenny Werner at the Criterion Theater during the Bar Harbor Jazz Festival in Bar Harbor, Maine.
